Price for garage sale permits increases to $15

Residents accustomed to buying a garage sale permit for $4 now will pay $15 for that permit and be asked to be aware of new rules for holding garage sales.

The increase in the price of a garage sale permit is one of several budget changes that became effective with the beginning of the City's new fiscal year. The increase will support increased enforcement of unpermitted garage sales.

Garage sale permits can be purchased at one of the City's four Community Link Service Centers (Las Palmas Shopping Center, Suite 132, 803 Castroville Road; McCreless Mall, 4100 S. New Braunfels; South Park Mall, 2310 S.W. Military; and Valley View Shopping Center, 8523 Blanco Road), at the City's One-Stop Development and Business Services Center, 1901 S. Alamo, or at any H.E.B. Grocery store.

Three garage sales will be allowed per residential address each calendar year, instead of two in previous years. However, only one garage sale is permitted every three months. Hours of garage sales are restricted to 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and should not exceed two consecutive days. Other rules apply to placement of signs that advertise garage sales as well as items allowed to be sold at garage sales.

Code Compliance officers will enforce these rules. Violations are subject to a fine of up to $50 for the first two convictions and up to $500 for each additional conviction.
